Day
5
The next morning I got up early
(things are due 12p.m. MST, so I had a couple of hours left), and took some
quizzes on the computer. Then we had breakfast on the 15
th floor of
the hotel. It was really fun—had a panoramic view of all of Salzburg! Breakfast
was more meat and cheese, but mostly cake for me. Jeff tried the fish, but we
mostly stick to things we KNOW we will like.

The Salzburg fortress is to the left |
My flower is still alive! The one we got from that field the first or second day of the trip--it's huge.
|
I was trying to be responsible and figure out which way we were going
We went walking through Salzburg. First, we went to Mozart’s birthplace. I’ve been there before. It’s crazy that I was standing there almost exactly three years ago. I remember it not being as cool:) There was a running marathon going on, and drums started up every time a runner came up; it was kinda fun to have a beat to walk along with. There was a hot air balloon after the finish line.

"Geburtshaus" = birth house. Geburtstag = birthday:) I still know a few German words |
We walked up to the fortress then went to the center of Salzburg.
|
143 steps was about half way up to the fortress. I am not happy, I am out of breath. |
|
I took a picture just like this--with those same flowers growing on a cement wall--on my first trip to Europe. |
|
I love it how people who take pictures here make sure to get all of your legs instead of focusing on the awesome architecture you came thousands of miles to see... |
|
...we do so much better on our own |
|
Apparently Black Riders and Death Eaters have existed for thousands of years |
We walked further and went into a huge cathedral. There was a choir from England just finishing up a song. Jeff was really impressed with how high it was. It was a gorgeous, huge building.
We bought some ice cream and water and walked over the river, toward the gardens.
Both of our cameras were dying, but we couldn’t keep them in our pockets once we reached the gardens. The center of Salzburg and these gardens are in the movie “The Sound of Music." I had Jeff watch parts of it when we got home. It was really cool too see we were standing right where they did. Even Jeff enjoyed watching that part, I think. The gardens were beautiful. There was a harp playing, and it was like summer there. It was very pretty.

The part of the garden the Von Trap children run through when they're singing "Do Re Mi" in the Sound of Music |

Jeff loves pretty winged ponies ;) |
After taking a few wrong turns, we got back to our car (which was in a parking garage that was built inside of a mountain). I put Jeff’s hoodie on and got comfortable for the ride home.
